Hebrew: liwyathanʹ

Probably from a word meaning "wreath", indicating a long coiled thing.

Mentioned in Job 3:8, Job 41:1, Psalm 74:14, Psalm 104:26 and Isaiah 27:1, usually as a great monster in connection with water. In Psalm 74:13 the Hebrew word thanninimʹ is used, showing a parallel to the thanin in Genesis 2:21. Sea monsters are also referred to in Ezekiel 29:3-5
